Editing Records

Last updated on 06 Apr, 2026

Editing collision records are completed through the Find Collisions or Flagged Collisions tabs.  The collisions must be searched and listed before edits can be made.  The two search methods are further described below.

Editing Through The Find Collisions Tab: Three search entries allow you search by a specific record attribute type:

  1. Date and/or street name;

  2. Case ID; or

  3. Category

Search by date and/or street name requires at least a date range input. Additional information such as primary and/or secondary roads or the street name would significantly narrow the search.  The search by “primary road” or “secondary road” or “street name” are optional and can be added to refine the search query. When searching by “street name,” the search box can be entered for complete or partial/portions of street names.

Searching by Case ID is useful when the case ID’s are either known or a set of case ID’s are provided from hardcopy files or previously queries from the database.  Only one (1) Case ID can be entered at a time, and when searched, will bring up the collision record for edit.

The third search method is “Search by Category.”  There are three categories shown in the figure below.  Once the category is selected, the query will provide results for all collisions in the entire database.

The drop down is designed to show results for collision type and MVIW fields that are Other or Not Stated. Rather than flag them as errors, they are categorized separately since the collision type and MVIW fields are shown directly in the traffic accident summary report and are evident to the engineers viewing the report.

The search will return a collision list based on the search criteria. You can then select the collision record to edit, and the software will display the desired collision report.

The selected collision report is displayed below and shows the field entries that can be edited directly or selected with a drop down bar with predetermined entries.  There are four tabs: Location, Collision Details, Parties, and Victims.  Any edits made to the collision record will be highlighted in color until submitted for Manager review.

When you have completed making edits to the collision record, you will click the "Submit Changes" button.  The edited collision record will automatically be placed in the "Pending Edits" tab unless you have Superuser account privileges.

Editing Through The Flagged Collision Tab:

Editing of collision records is similar to the procedure decribed in the Editing Through The Find Collision Tab.  Refer to Flagged Collision Help Topic for further information.
